Choosing the right printer.
When you decide to buy a new printer, you will notice that there are a lot different types of printers on the market today.

To begin with, there are 2 different types of printers: the impact printers and the non-impact printers. The first one touches the paper when printing and the 2nd one doesn't. The most commonly used printers are the non-impact printers and will be discussed hereafter.

The inkjet and the laser printer are both non-impact printers.
The inkjet printer is the cheapest one. Its working principle is easy: the printer places very small droplets of ink onto paper to create an image. The more drops per inch, the better the quality of the printout. The prices start at £60 for a basic one, going up to £300 for high quality inkjet printers.
Low cost Inkjet printers can be used for letter, document or spreadsheet printing. For high quality photographs and big presentations it's better to use a high end inkjet (and photo) printer.

The laser printer is more expensive and starts at about £300. This printer burns the dry ink onto the paper. This enables the laser printer to print much faster than the inkjet printer. Therefore, the laser printer is used by persons or businesses who need to print big quantities. Color laser printers also exist, but are even more expensive and start at £600.
