| Going on holiday with your laptop. |
When you're going on holiday and you take your laptop with you, you have to consider some very important things.
1. Airport When you go on holiday by plane, prepare yourself for security check at the airport. You can carry a laptop and use it on the plane (wait for the signal from the captain) but never put a laptop in your baggage, always keep it with your hand luggage. Don't forget to charge your laptop's battery before going to the airport, you could be asked to turn it on for security check. X-rays are no threat to your laptop's hard-drive or floppy disks.
2. Magnets You may not know this but televisions, hair dryers, radios … have small magnets that can be harmful to storage devices. So, when using a laptop, a floppy disk … in a hotel room, never leave it on the television or on speakers for a long period of time if you want to keep all your data safe. Place your laptop and possible accessories far away from those devices. Also, always try to save important data on 2 storage devices.
3. Batteries Take care of your battery anywhere you are. Extreme heat and cold are very bad conditions for a battery. Never put your laptop near to a microwave or leave it in the sun. Hot batteries can explode and cause injuries. Also watch out for water drops from wet sources on your laptop, this could cause a short circuit.
4. Room When using a laptop in a hotel room, make sure the room is well equipped with internet access (wireless, LAN or modem) and maybe other devices like faxes and printers.
